The short version
The original course still holds up. It is more open and less dramatic than Pacific but the cliff holes on the back nine are as good as anything at the resort.
How it played
Wide off the tee, punishing near the greens. The gorse eats anything wild, and the greens are big enough that three-putts are the real card killer.
How it looks
Broad fairways, gorse everywhere and long views of the Pacific from the high ground.
What won me over
- forgiving driving lines for a links
- the 16th along the cliff is superb
- easier walk than the rest of the resort
Good to know before you buy
- less dramatic than Pacific Dunes
- gorse is unplayable, not a hazard
My verdict
9.0/10. Don't treat it as the warm-up round.
