The short version
Fazio Foothills is the most fun I have had inside Austin city limits. It is a hundred bucks more than it should be, and I would still book it again tomorrow because the back nine keeps handing you shots you have to think about.
How it played
It rewards a controlled draw off the tee and punishes a hold-off cut into the hills. The 9th and 18th both ask for commitment, and the greens are quick enough that above-the-hole is a two-putt at best.
How it looks
Limestone cliffs, two waterfalls and greens perched over drop-offs. It looks like a brochure and it plays like one too.
What won me over
- the 9th and 18th are two of the best closing holes in Texas
- conditioning is resort-standard year round
- caddies actually know the greens, not just the yardages
Good to know before you buy
- the price is steep in peak spring
- pace pushes five hours on weekends
My verdict
9.0/10. The signature Texas resort round, and it earns the tag.
