FootJoy Pro/SL Carbon Review

Golf Shoe · 9 rounds in my bag

8.9/ 10

The short version

First swing with the FootJoy Pro/SL Carbon and I forgot about my feet for 18 holes, which is the highest praise a golf shoe gets. I walked 36 in a day and had no hot spots, wet grass and all. The catch: the traction gives up on steep wet slopes before the rest of the shoe does.

How it played

I put it in play for 9 rounds and never babied it — wet mornings, baked-out afternoons, the lot. What I keep coming back to is that I forgot about my feet for 18 holes, which is the highest praise a golf shoe gets. Where it bit me: the traction gives up on steep wet slopes before the rest of the shoe does — worth knowing before you spend the money.

How it looks

Clean enough to wear to lunch afterwards without anyone noticing. I care less about that than how it feels, but it does not hurt.

What won me over

  • light enough to walk 36 in
  • no break-in period at all
  • the grip holds through a full wet-weather swing

Good to know before you buy

  • traction fades on steep wet ground
  • the sizing runs a half size small

My verdict

8.9/10 from me. If you walk, and your feet have opinions by the 14th, the FootJoy Pro/SL Carbon earns its spot in the bag. If traction fades on steep wet ground is a dealbreaker for you, keep looking.
