8.5/ 10
The short version
Playing golf under the Remarkables is a distraction I never got over. Jack's Point runs through schist outcrops with the mountains sitting right on top of you.
How it played
Wide fairways with rocky penal edges. Alpine air adds distance and takes it back when the wind switches off the lake. Greens were slower than I expected but honest.
How it looks
Tussock grass, grey rock outcrops and a lake-and-mountain backdrop that does not look real.
What won me over
- the best mountain backdrop in golf
- tussock framing gives real definition
- genuinely playable for the whole group
Good to know before you buy
- shot values are good, not great
- cold and exposed outside summer
My verdict
8.5/10. The scenery round of a New Zealand trip.
