Mizuno Pro 243 Review

Irons · 8 rounds in my bag

8.5/ 10

The short version

I did not expect much from the Mizuno Pro 243, then the feedback is honest, a pure one is buttery and a thin one tells you all about it. Gapping stayed sensible through the whole set, no surprise flyer 8-irons. The catch: the short irons feel a touch hot, I flew a couple of greens early on.

How it played

No lab and no press-release numbers here: 8 rounds, real turf, real nerves. What I keep coming back to is that the feedback is honest, a pure one is buttery and a thin one tells you all about it. Where it bit me: the short irons feel a touch hot, I flew a couple of greens early on — worth knowing before you spend the money.

How it looks

Compact from address with a thin top line, and the finish holds up. I care less about that than how it feels, but it does not hurt.

What won me over

  • the sole moves through turf cleanly
  • the shaping is clean at address
  • centre strikes feel genuinely soft

Good to know before you buy

  • the finish marks up faster than I would like
  • there is a real skill floor here

My verdict

8.5/10 from me. If you strike it well enough to want feedback rather than rescue, the Mizuno Pro 243 earns its spot in the bag. If the finish marks up faster than I would like is a dealbreaker for you, keep looking.
