8.5/ 10

The short version

Two holes in with the Ping PLD Anser 2 I knew: it rolls end over end and the sound off the face is quiet and firm. Inside eight feet I stopped thinking about the stroke, which is the only review a putter really needs. The catch: on very fast greens the face feels a shade hot for me.

How it played

Straight into the bag for 12 rounds with no easing-in period. What I keep coming back to is that it rolls end over end and the sound off the face is quiet and firm. Where it bit me: on very fast greens the face feels a shade hot for me — worth knowing before you spend the money.

How it looks

Understated, no wild graphics, and the alignment line sits where I want it. I care less about that than how it feels, but it does not hurt.

What won me over

  • the roll starts true with almost no skid
  • the alignment aid frames the ball naturally
  • the head sits perfectly flat behind the ball

Good to know before you buy

  • it is expensive for what it is
  • the face is hot on very quick greens

My verdict

8.5/10 from me. If you want confidence on the ones you should be holing, the Ping PLD Anser 2 earns its spot in the bag. If it is expensive for what it is is a dealbreaker for you, keep looking.
