9.5/ 10
The short version
The West Course is the best set of greens and bunkers I have ever played. Nothing is hidden, everything is hard, and the fairways are so firm that a 20-yard miss becomes 50.
How it played
Firm, fast and angle-obsessed. Approaching from the wrong half of the fairway meant a bunker or a run-off almost every time. Chipping off that tight sand-based turf is a joy and a nightmare.
How it looks
Sandbelt bunkering cut right into the putting surfaces, tea-tree edges and fairways the colour of straw.
What won me over
- the best bunkering on earth, no exaggeration
- every hole gives you a real choice off the tee
- turf quality is unmatched
Good to know before you buy
- access is hard without a member connection
- the flat land underwhelms in photos
My verdict
9.5/10. The best course I have played anywhere.
