The short version
No bunkers, nine greens on the cliff and the wind doing all the defending. Sheep Ranch is either your favourite course at Bandon or the one you shrug at, and I loved it.
How it played
Without bunkers, the whole defence is contour and wind. Aiming 40 yards left of a flag felt normal by the back nine. Greens are enormous, so the approach is really about which quarter you can hold.
How it looks
Wide open cliff-top ground with the ocean visible from every single hole.
What won me over
- ocean views from all 18
- freeing to play with zero bunkers
- great for a windy afternoon second round
Good to know before you buy
- less strategic depth than Pacific Dunes
- brutally exposed when it howls
My verdict
8.7/10. Play it in the afternoon and enjoy the show.
