The short version
Two holes in with the Titleist GT2 Hybrid I knew: it feels like a club I can swing at rather than one I have to steer. It replaced a long iron I had been lying to myself about for two seasons. The catch: flighting it down is a fight, it wants to go up.
How it played
Straight into the bag for 9 rounds with no easing-in period. What I keep coming back to is that it feels like a club I can swing at rather than one I have to steer. Where it bit me: flighting it down is a fight, it wants to go up — worth knowing before you spend the money.
How it looks
Somewhere between an iron and a wood, and it hides its bulk well at address. I care less about that than how it feels, but it does not hurt.
What won me over
- it gets long approaches on the green instead of near it
- the strike window feels twice the size of my 4-iron
- it works fine from the light stuff
Good to know before you buy
- it is hard to hit low into wind
- the stock shaft feels loose at full tilt
My verdict
8.9/10 from me. If you need a bail-out club from 200 yards that still holds a green, the Titleist GT2 Hybrid earns its spot in the bag. If it is hard to hit low into wind is a dealbreaker for you, keep looking.
